frisco kids checkup

We want to see kids for a checkup once every six months starting at around age two. While these visits may seem minor, they are essential for safeguarding kids against the onset of poor oral health. At your Frisco, TX, children’s dental practice, we can offer a dental checkup to help safeguards their smiles!

When Kids Need a Dental Exam

The first dental exam should happen within six months of the first baby tooth eruption. Starting at around age two, kids need to begin seeing our team for a routine checkup every six months, just like you do. The checkup allows us to watch the smile as it grows, so we can address problems in the early stages and safeguard the smile. If your child has not had a dental exam recently, we hope you will contact our team to schedule one soon.

The Checkup Process

As part of the process, we will take detailed digital x-rays of the smile, which use 90% less radiation and provide high-definition images chairside. We can then conduct a diagnosis with precision and if we discover issues like tooth decay, we can recommend fillings to bring relief and prevent infection or premature tooth loss. Our team also asks your kid about their oral health habits, and how to properly brush and floss to keep their smiles strong. These visits help prevent dental anxiety and make kids more likely to continue caring for their smiles and seeing the dentist in adulthood.

Cleaning the Teeth

In the same appointment, we will also take time to clean the teeth. A dental cleaning involves the use of an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool to gently and thoroughly remove all plaque and tartar for the teeth. We then polish the teeth to limit future buildup and keep smiles bright. The procedure only takes a few short minutes, and lowers the risk of cavities and gingivitis significantly. This also helps prevent bad breath and teeth stains too! In the same dental exam and cleaning visit, we could also apply fluoride to the teeth to help lower the risk of cavities by strengthening the outer enamel. Dental sealants could also be provided to coat the rear teeth, the one kids have trouble brushing and flossing, to fight cavities for years to come.
